Yamaha Music School

The Yamaha Music School began in 1954 in Tokyo as an experimental class for young children. Initial enrollment was 150 students. The unique instruction methods produced results quickly and the Yamaha Music School rapidly gained a reputation throughout the world. To date, more than 6,000,000 students have graduated from the Yamaha Music Education System.
The most distinctive feature of the Yamaha Music Education System is its emphasis on creativity, particularly self-expression through music improvisation and composition, for people of all ages. Students educated in the Yamaha Music Education System learn not only how to hear, sing and play musically, but also how to express themselves creatively. Even children in the Junior Music Course (ages 3-5) are encouraged to express themselves creatively in specially designed activities. The notion that only advanced music students or adults, who have completely mastered their instruments, should study music composition is quickly dispelled in the Yamaha system.
