What is a Central Vacuum System?

A central vacuum system, sometimes called a built-in vacuum, is the modern alternative to traditional, portable vacuum cleaners. It consists of four basic parts:

1. A power unit, usually installed in a garage, basement or storage space. The power unit also serves as the collection point for dirt and debris vacuumed in the house.
2. PVC tubing, installed inside walls and/or under floors. The PVC tubing connects the power unit to the inlet valves.
3. Inlet valves, strategically located throughout the home. When you vacuum your home, you attach the vacuum hose to the inlet valve in the area you wish to clean. Three inlet valves can easily cover an entire 2,200 square foot home and garage.
4. Vacuum hoses and attachments. The lightweight hose, usually 30 or 35 feet long, connects to an inlet valve. Various attachments for different cleaning needs, such as bare floors, carpets, draperies, car interiors, etc, attach to the hose.

Why Choose a Central Vacuum System over a Traditional Vacuum Cleaner?

Greater Cleaning Power

Because of its powerful motor and large air flow, central vacuums pick up deep down dirt, dust and debris, even microscopic particles like pollen, mold spores and dust mites. Unlike a traditional vacuum cleaner, which recirculates into the air some of the dirt and particles it picks up, 100% of all vacuumed dirt, particles and allergens are removed from the home into the canister located at the power unit.

Improved Indoor Air Quality

Because 100% of vacuumed material is removed from the home, indoor air quality is significantly improved. In fact, University of California Davis School of Medicine found that allergy sufferers’ symptoms can be improved up to 61% when using a central vacuum system. Improved indoor air quality also means a cleaner smelling home.

Convenience and Ease of Cleaning

No heavy equipment to lug around, no cords to trip over or catch on furniture, no clunky unit nicking the furniture and woodwork as you move from room to room. Lightweight hoses and attachments are easy on the back. Convenient outlets placed to your specifications allow quick and efficient cleaning.

Quiet Operation!

Because the noise from the system is generated in an out-of-the-way area, vacuuming with a central vac system makes less noise than a hairdryer or clothes dryer. Quiet enough to vacuum in the same room as a sleeping child!

Increase in Home Value

A central vacuum can increase resale value of a home by $1500 or more. Like other built-in appliances, it is an excellent selling feature.

Easy Installation

Both new and existing homes can be easily fitted with a central vacuum system. Professional installers can complete the job in almost any home in a matter of hours.

Cost

A complete central vacuum system can be professionally installed in the average home for less than the cost of many name-brand portable vacuum cleaners. Because it will provide powerful cleaning for a decade or more, a central vacuum system is more of a wise consumer bargain than a luxury.

Hide a Hose – Retractable Hose

This space-saving retractable hose system enables a homeowner to use a central vacuum system with ease and store up to 50 feet of hose within the wall.

With the Hide-A-Hose System, users simply pull out the length of hose needed for their cleaning job, connect the powerhead, and begin vacuuming. When finished, the system harnesses the suction from the central vacuum power unit (installed in the garage or basement) to retract the hose back into the PVC tubing installed within the walls, attic and floor joists of the home. Since each inlet valve has a hose stored within the tubing inside the walls, longer hoses can be used (one hose can cover up to 2,300 square feet), thus reducing the number of inlets required for whole-house coverage.

As an additional benefit, the included hose sock (used to prevent furniture and woodwork scratching) remains cleaner than a hose stored in a closet. Each time the power unit is turned on, the suction removes the dirt and dust particles that may have stuck to the hose while vacuuming.
