Fall from grace
11 months
I have been a fine food shopper in the Toronto area for over 20 years. Pusateri's used to be a good spot, but unfortunately, things have changed dramatically over the last five years.
The days of personal attention to detail and their products are gone. The "all fresh counters" aren't all that fresh anymore. Customer service is lacking unless you are in the NBA, driving a Ferrari, or part of the Italian mafia. Seems like a typical new money type store where you just go to show others that you are in there. They have become more concerned about marketing and who is walking through their doors than what product they sell.
Hopefully Ida's children will be able to turn things around now that she was able to wrestle control from the actual pusateri's with her hairdresser brother. I hope they can find their way from the original neighborhood grocery store Ida's husband's father originally started. Talking to some of the employees there who I have become old friends with over the years, the new pusateri's seems to be falling the fate of a family business that will be handed over to a diluted gene pool of children who don't understand anything about customer service outside of how much money they can make. It happens often (just look at Eaton's) - but it is really a sad event as this was one of my favorite stores to shop at. The fall from grace has been dramatic.
Even though I don't like supporting the big guns, I have to go to Whole Foods from now on. I just feel dirty shopping in Pusateri's these days. Sad :(
